Simple Tools for Love and Relationships with Alan Fox

Phew, what a whirlwind this past two weeks have been!

My husband and I just relocated from Boston, MA to Portland, OR after packing up our apartment, finding a new home and getting our two large dogs on a plane.

At 33 weeks pregnant.

While I was flying somewhere over Michigan and flipping through the Delta magazine, I saw an ad for NY Times Best Selling Author Alan Fox’s latest book: People Tools for Love and Relationships.

Ironically, I had a pre-edited copy of the very same book, signed by Alan, in my purse that I brought along to prep for my interview with him.

Even though I had shut down my business that week for the move craziness, I knew when Alan asked me to interview him I had to make space in my calendar.

Boy am I glad I did!

We had such a dynamic and enlightening interview. At the age of 75, with six children, three marriages (currently with his wife Daveen for 35 years!) and a very successful career…Alan has a lot of wisdom to share.

The book includes useful relationship tools such as:

How To Be The Right Person. To build a successful life partnership, it’s more important to learn to be the right person than it is to find the right person.

The Best Defense Is No Defense. While having a strong defense is helpful on the battlefield, being defensive in your relationships can cause serious problems.

Happiness Equals Expectations Minus Reality. No one is perfect. To enter into a relationship you need to be an optimist. To stay in and enjoy that relationship, you need to be a realist. It is important to accept your partner as he or she is, including faults.

The Key Is You. If you think, “Iʼve done my part. I have changed. The remaining problem is him or her.” Youʼre wrong. The key to any successful relationship is you.

I think you’ll find his story to be wonderfully refreshing and optimistic. Perfect for anyone looking for love or who just wants to give their relationship a power boost.

After you’ve had a chance to listen, I’d love to hear from you.

If there was a ‘tool’ you could create that has helped in your relationships, what would it be? Or was there a tool mentioned in this episode that would serve you to take advantage of?
