Alexis and Family Holiday Photo

I was on a date this past Monday.

As a Christmas gift from Peter, he surprised me with tickets to see Lindsey Stirling in concert downtown.

If you’ve never heard of her, check her out, she’s amazing! She’s this adorable  girl who dances around while playing violin to rock songs, and just released a holiday album.

I’ve played the violin since I was 5 years old, but for the past few years it’s been collecting dust, so it inspired me to get out of my routine and start playing again.

During the concert, Lindsey talked about a recent video she did for her YouTube channel where she disguised herself and played in a NYC subway.

What happened was that only two people looked up from their phones, or paused their busy lives, for long enough to listen.

People pay hundreds of dollars now to see her live and her show had been sold out for months! And only two people stopped to hear her…for free.

The lesson is that beauty is all around us, all of the time, and often we’re too caught up in our own heads to notice it.

She said that she expected these results, but what surprised her the most was how it made her feel.

It brought her back to the days when she was just starting out, awkwardly dancing and playing on cafeteria stages, praying that someone would listen. That someone would see the beauty in her, because she was finding it so hard to see the beauty in herself.

Not to mention how many naysayers I’m sure there were in her life!

I can only imagine the people close to her who must have said things like, “Lindsey, the dancing and violin is cute and all, but I think it’s time you go get a real job.”

She refused to give up, and during those years she said she began seeing coaches and counselors, determined to take action to heal from within.

When she could finally understand her own value and worth, a famous YouTuber, Devin Supertramp, saw and believed in her. He helped her to jump start her career, and now she travels around the world playing for millions of people.

Why am I telling you this story?

Because you have worth. You have so much beauty both inside and out.

And this holiday season, if you’re having trouble seeing it right now, know that I can see it within you.

XO

Alexis
